I took in a travelog last weekend, the first one I've seen in years. I could tell that it was shot on Kodachrome, but I also could tell that I was watching a print. Given I was sitting near the project and I could not hear any splices ...and judging by looking at the film I am sure the director used A.B roll splicing to hide the cuts. The film must have been a print, it was defiantly shot on Kodachrome but it did not look like it had extra contrast build up from printing.

My question, since I did not stop to talk with the filmmaker. Did he have to make a IN before going to a release print.? Or is there a low contrast release print for duping Kodachrome originals?

My question is "Why didn't you stop and talk to the filmmaker"?

What was his name. I know of one gentleman who shoots 16mm Kodachrome of things like the Gallapagos islands AND PROJECTS THE ORIGINAL!

My source says the film was shot with 16mm negative, the negative was cut and then AB Rolled to the final print stock. I don't know if an internegative was made however.

Kodak has a contrasty release print stock that they offer. Perhaps this filmmaker used a procedure that is a reversal (oh, a pun) of the standard method of shooting Kodachrome film stock then making a low con print.

Instead, He used low con origination negative, then printed onto a kodachrome type of print stock. The end result is it looked like a Kodachrome original!

I saw another Travelog this past weekend.A lady filmmaker presenting a video on Ireland.

My eyes were more tired while watching this travelog. To much white sky (fog) in some of the shots, to much zooming or was it the fact it was shot on video. Maybe all of the above.

Sigh. I got the travelog magazine in the mail and was quite disappointed by a short "commentary" by the one of the former film turned video **** travelogue people.

The biggest problem I had with the piece is I don't think it's true! If I have the patience I may type it here for others to gasp also.
